REBECKA EDLUND
Sonorities of experimental jazz, Scandinavian folk music and captivating storytelling
Swedish vocalist Rebecka Edlund weaves together the sonorities of experimental jazz and Scandinavian folk music. Since moving from Sweden to London in 2019, Edlund has established herself as one of the UK’s boldest pioneers within vocal improvisation and songwriting.
Drawing on the evocative edge of Nordic landscapes and the quirks of human nature, Edlund’s music is defined by immersive storytelling, expressive improvisations, herding calls and bird whistles.
Edlund’s recent ventures include performing with Ruth Goller’s Skylla and recording an album with an octet of notable musicians including Norma Winstone, Jeff Ballard, Iain Ballamy and Rob Luft. She curates the Downstairs Living Room Series at Vortex Jazz Club and teaches at the Faculty of Music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire.
Edlund’s upcoming debut album, Virgin Forest, features the extraordinary musical minds of Laura Jurd, Ruth Goller and Elliot Galvin. The album is a collection of letters to our younger and older selves, reflecting upon the synergy between how we treat the home we have in nature and the one we carry within.
