TOM FORD
Global jazz energy, rooted in UK soul
“What emerges smooths out the differences between genres, sitting relaxedly between trip-hop, funk, pop and soul: for those seeking improvisation, there are opportune moments for Ford to flex his soloing skills” – Jazzwise
Tom Ford has been a steady member of the UK jazz scene for the past 10 years having regularly performed at Ronnie Scotts, Jazz Cafe, 91 living room and more as well as being a regular sideman for Reuben James, Jas Kayser and Jay Phelps. He has also been welcomed into the US and European jazz scenes respectively touring and recording with Chris ‘daddy’ Dave’s drumhedz, Keyon Harrold, Pet Eldh’s Projekt Drums amongst others. Outside of jazz he also writes and produces for many people in both the jazz and commercial world, having worked across the world in LA, NY, Europe and Brazil.
Tom Ford is dropping his first full length debut album in 2025. As before there is a heavy emphasis on collaboration with many of his peers and musicians he has worked with over his career, always emphasising a collective sharing of individual voices through his music where possible. This album titled ‘goodbye, forever’ from his own terms is seen as a rebirth creatively and artist moving away from his past sound and ideas and transitioning to a new version of his creative self. The concept being truly about always striving for creative growth and change within himself. The album features as usual with his music a diverse mix of genres and influence but with a heavy emphasis on improvisation, even though there are elements paying tribute to The Police, The Smiths, Allan Holdsworth and Milton Nascimento. Tom is striving to really showcase his influences and love of varied music in a format that is unashamed but also unrestricted from a creative and expressive point of view.
The album features some well known musicians from the world jazz scene with features from Chris ‘Daddy’ Dave, Frederico Heliodoro, Anatole Muster, Otis Sandsjo and Logan Kane to name a few. Live Tom performs this material with a stripped back band that usually comprises a trio (guitar, bass and drums) augmented by Chicago vocalist and artist Chase Alex, preferring to interpret the music raw and rough live in line with his love of 80s post punk and new wave.
